Gallen CTC Health ScienceEmployment among Health Care Occupations is expected to grow nearly 19% from 2014-2024 adding nearly 2.3 million jobs (US Bureau of Labor & Statistics) As new developments allow for treatment of more medical conditions, more health professionals will be needed. An additional 440,000 Registered nurses (with a 2015 median pay of over $62,000) will be needed to meet the demand for services.

Colleges throughout the country recognize the value & knowledge level high school students attain through the Health Science classes. This gives students an advantage for admission when applying to higher education with a major in the health care fields. Students taking two years of HST, receive a Nationally recognized two-year Completer Certificate in Health Science Technology.

  • Hands-on clinical assessment skills & procedures
  • Guest speakers, and job shadowing
  • Study of the body systems (anatomy & physiology)
  • The curriculum includes:
    • Patient safety
    • OSHA's Blood Borne Pathogen Training
    • HIPAA & Confidentiality Training
    • Medical Ethics and Medical Law
    • Basic patient care clinical skills
    • Communication & Cultural awareness
    • Medical Terminology
    • Optional 3 college credit Running Start course
  • Health Care Provider certification for CPR and First Aid

All students will have: Work readiness opportunities through concrete demonstration of growth through:

  • Collaboration
  • Learn & improve through constructive feedback
  • Goal setting & goal attainment
  • Become members of their first professional health career association Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)

Gallen CTC Health ScienceGallen CTC Health ScienceLearn how to apply what you learned in your first year of Health Science to the "real world". We focus on college and career readiness. We utilize the National Health Science Standards which is comprehensively aligned with the State of NH DOE standards for Health Science. The curriculum is tailored to the individual needs of the student and includes:

  • In-depth focus in your career choice of study
  • Clinical student internships
  • Develop skills in:
    • Leadership
    • Assessment
    • Communication skills in the classroom, lab and in the health care community
  • Students may take the LNA (Licensed Nursing Assistant) course. After passing the State Licensing Exam, they can obtain their LNA and are eligible for employment upon graduation
  • The EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) career tract is offered to students interested in pursuing a career as an EMT or Paramedic
    • This program is competency based and consists of an internship in both the pre-hospital and acute care setting
  • Students have the option of taking Medical Terminology for Health Professionals a 3 college credit Running Start course. This course benefits anyone interested in a health career.
  • Students have the option of taking the Essentials of Exercise Science 3 college credit Running Start course. This option is ideal for students interested in athletic training and sports medicine, physical & occupational therapy.
